Modular Unit
As a collaboration with two students in the Ceramics Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art, two hundred units were extruded, refined by hand, and fired. Alone the modular unit is an interpretation of the in between space within a brick wall. In multiples, it becomes a system that specifically serves a function through placement and configuration. During a week-long gallery exhibition, our project was installed in a different configuration each day as exercises in patterning, screening, and stacking.
